Sad news...

This is Jervais writing ([info]grindcore) to let everyone know Sonia passed away this morning quietly.

She had been diagnosed with lung cancer and was scheduled to begin chemotherapy soon. She went peacefully and will be missed by so many people.

I'll post more information here as it comes to me. As Melissa will be swamped with calls and has so much to do, in addition to grieving, I'd suggest email as a means to reaching her. She will be checking Sonia's regular email. The funeral will be held in Minneapolis, I'll post the date here when we have it.

Love you Sonia, you rocked our worlds.

I am so incredibly sad that I won't ever get my hair done by Sonia again and get to hear her cool stories. I won't ever get to tell her how beautiful she made me feel or how much her generosity meant to me.

ana I'm so fucking sad, I'm sitting here crying... she was my pal, we were always saying we were going to get together, the first person I thought to call was you but it's 3:21 in the moring, you must be so upset, fuck...

oh wow...im shocked...i had no clue she was so ill. i didnt know her well but she was a kind person and will be missed. my condolensces to her family and loved ones

You know that's so true. She so inspired me. She made me feel okay about being myself, looking however I wanted to look when I've spent my life being locked down in this, please my conservative mother and her friends world. She brought out the best in people, seriously, by letting them be wild and creative with their hair, and by being so cool and fun and centered and just terrific to be around. She made it easier for me to turn forty, she looked so amazing and I thought, wow I can't believe Sonia's x years old and if she can still be so cool and so alive and young then I can too.

I just found out, I'm so sad and in denial.

oh my god. i talked to her about a month ago, when she was in the hospital and i can't believe this.

all my love to you sonia. you are a beautiful person who made other people feel beautiful too, and i will never forget how loving and calming a person you were. i'm so sorry you got sick. i love you.

I've been following her on lj and through her dread work in Minneapolis... man.... what a loss. I was hoping to have her do my dreads this summer... she seemed really nice. My condolences... and I'm thankful her passing was peaceful. Peace.

My heart just sank in to my stomach.

Sonia was an amazing and beautiful woman. There were times when she was the only one who could make me feel pretty with her magic hands. Much love to her family and friends.

Thank you Jervais. I doubt you remember me, but my heart and strength go out to you and all of Sonia's friends and family. thank you for telling us, and so gently and tactfully.
